Javier Barilaro
(Buenos Aires, 1974)
Studied painting at Escuela de Bellas Artes and had drawing lessons, but considers himself a self-taught artist. He worked with Compañía E theatre group making stage and graphic designs and participating in several performances between 1997 and 2000. He is a publisher at Mansalva publishing company, and together with the writer Washington Cucurto he created the social artistic project “Eloísa Cartonera”, which has been running since 2003. He participated in the project “Belleza y Felicidad”, where he exhibited in 2002, 2003 and 2006. Since then his paintings have been related to “cumbia” (a musical style popular in Latin America), and he has taken part in exhibitions such as “Civilización y Barbarie” (2004/2005, in five cities in Latin America) and Sao Paulo Biennial 2006. He lives and works in Buenos Aires. |
